Last week the first step to NetZero in the Oil Filled Cables Segment has been taken by National Grid: Using biotechnology to get rid off all oil in cables in London’s hashtag#LPT2 project.

In urban areas, electrical supply cables are predominantly laid underground, even at high voltages (30, 110, 275, 420kV, etc.).

These cables often use paper insulation that is cooled and/or insulated with liquid oil to manage the unavoidable line losses and resulting heating.

However, decommissioning oil-filled cables poses significant challenges:
